WASHINGTON COMMUNITY CARE COALITION (WCCC)

-Caring and Sharing-

I have showed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive."
                                                                                       Acts 20:34

Servicing the Community since 1982

In 1981, I owned and operated an  independent automotive garage and wanted to do something for the community.  My first thought was to start a Black Business Association.  In 1982, six other people and I met at the I. B. Turner library. I shared my vision with them and we chose the name Christmas Cheer for our endeavor. We received donations from churches and other businesses. That first year we were able to hand out 24 boxes of food to families for Christmas. With this accomplishment, we were featured on the front page of the Washington Daily News. Virginia Ford, a television reporter at Channel 12 TV in New Bern, also gave a brief report on us.  We were so proud of our success that year. What was meant to be a one time event is now 28 years later and I am still determined to put a smile on the faces of families who need a helping hand during the holiday season.
